Marmite Jar Candle

Trying Something New

I am often left bored on these cold, dark evenings, twiddling my thumbs until I’m a Celebrity comes on. (Tragic, I know).

I’d been searching for a hobby (outside of blogging) for a while but hadn’t found anything which stuck.

That was until my sister stumbled upon candle-making and SedgWicks Candles were born.

It turns out that you can make candles in anything. Vintage tea-cups, sundae glasses and Marmite jars have proved popular. The possibilities seem limitless.

Since trialling our candle-making skills, we have decided to try our best at turning it into our own family business and have been selling the candles at local fairs and online.

Now my evenings are filled with candle wax, book-balancing, label writing and organising. For the first time in a while I’m busy- and I love it.

We are slowly starting to make a success of it and are anxiously waiting for the pennies to start to pile up.

I’m hoping to put any money I earn towards my next adventure, cheers to that!

Thankfully the word is starting to spread and we are beginning to receive donations of unloved jars and glasses which, with a bit of TLC, can be transformed and used again as candles.

It’s proved to me what a pinch of inspiration and a whole lot of sweat and tears can do! Anything that brings my next trip that little bit closer can only be a good thing- and I’ve learnt a new skill in the process.

If you fancy taking a peek at anything we make or would like us to make a unique candle just for you or a loved one, check out our Facebook page and leave us a message.

Have you ever tried candle-making or running your own craft business? Please let me know so I can pick your brains!

I love candle making, i’d done loads of crafts before coming across candle making. It’s very time consuming and requires a lot of money with the amount of testing needed but it’s worth it when people buy from you. With it coming up to Xmas too I’m selling tonnes of melts and votives at the minute, the pillar candles are still being tested though
