Camping New Forest

Review: Hollands Wood Campsite, New Forest

I had high hopes for this campsite. I had been sold tales of peaceful tranquility and tents nestled between the trees.

So, turning off a busy main road into the campsite was a bit of a shock. It would be impossible to mask the sounds of the roaring traffic or escape from the fumes and pollution we had left London to avoid.

How wrong was I?!

Hollands Wood is an oasis of calm and beauty. Enthusiastic staff usher you through the gates and lead you into one of the most idyllic campsites I’ve ever seen. With free roam of the site you are invited to choose your own spacious plot and you really are spoiled for choice.

In the end we plumped for a spot with an uninterrupted view of the adjacent heath land. It was spectacular.

We were even joined by some four-legged friends who helped us pitch up.

The campsite is situated close to the picturesque village of Brokenhurst. Brokenhurst is at the heart of the New Forest as its quaint train station whizzes tired London commuters to the heart of the National Park in just over an hour.

Cute country pubs, such as The Snakecatcher and the Rose and Crown serve delicious hearty meals and local draught ale, perfect after a long woodland ramble.

Brokenhurst is easily walk-able from the campsite and the stroll is pretty darn scenic too. There’s even rope-swings to keep the kids entertained…

The best thing about this campsite is waking up to the mist swirling on the heath and ponies grazing metres from your tent. (I admit, the ponies are blooming terrifying at first but the mini Shetland ponies are probably the cutest things I’ve ever seen).

Why can’t all Sunday mornings be like this?
